Twenty Five children and a number of adult leaders had a great time at our annual Good Friday Children’s Workshop.
Firstly, the children undertook three craft activities: making bracelets, decorating Easter Eggs and making wind chimes.
Everyone then went over to the church to hear the Easter story through song, teaching and video.
The morning finished with an easter Egg hunt around the church with each team having to find twelve eggs which spelt out “Jesus is Risen”.
Our next big children’s event will be “Saddle Up” our Holiday Club which will run 11th to 15th August.
On Palm Sunday we held a Lenten lunch after the two services in order to raise money for C.M.S. and our link with Old Diocese in South Sudan.
After the lunch we elected our new Select vestry at the Easter Vestry meeting having previously heard the reports in church.
As we did last year we are planning to hold a special Children’s event on Good Friday morning, hoping to help children learn more about the cross and the Easter story. This will be on Friday 18th April, 11-12:45pm beginning in the hall and then moving over to the church. The first part of the session will involve the children doing different Good Friday and Easter related craft activities in different areas of the hall. After refreshments we will then go over into church in order to hear the Easter story in a fun way before finishing the morning with a team Easter egg hunt.
The event is free, however we do need to know exact numbers in order to buy in the necessary resources so if you would like your child or children to come, please complete a registration form by Sunday 13th April at the latest. You can find booking information HERE.
Please on the day would you bring your child into the hall and collect them from there too as you will need to sign them in and out. The event is geared towards children 5 and over, however any children under 5 are welcome as long as a parent stays with them and supervises them throughout the event.
I can promise you that this event will be great fun and at the same time will help your child or children to better understand the events of Good Friday and Easter; if you have any questions or need more information then please feel free to ring me or E mail. We look forward to seeing you and your child on Good Friday.
We will be holding our Annual Sports Quiz in the Church Hall, run for us by Christians in Sport on Friday 21st February beginning at 7.30pm.
There will be refreshements and a short talk about the Christian faith at half time. Everybody is welcome.
Please come in teams, or else on your own, and join up with others.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to and worked so hard at our Craft Fair on Saturday 23rd November, and thank you to all the crafters and everyone who attended, despite the terrible weather.
We raised an impressive £1,625 during the day.
Although few in numbers, we had a great day and enjoyed fabulous weather at Worship in the Woods this year in the Glebe Gardens.
After a number of games, we sat down and thought about water and how it is present in both our world and the bible. We also thought about how Jesus used water as a metaphor for the Holy Spirit and his work in our lives.
There then followed a treasure hunt, with all the answers nailed to trees in the different gardens. This was won by Sophie and Jayne before we finished with refreshments.
Throughout the event the adults enjoyed tea and tray bakes as they watched the action unfold.
Our Mothers' Union members have been busy over the past few months, buying items for emergency toiletry packs which are given to patients being admitted to hospital through A&E.
Our members have also been busy knitting baby items.
Today 60 emergency toiletry packs were delivered to A&E at Antrim Area Hospital and 100 baby hats, cardigans and incubator blankets were delivered to the Neonatal Department. The staff at both departments were delighted to receive these items on behalf of the patients and really appreciated these contributions.
The Community Friendship Club ended their year with a trip to the Whitehead Railway Museum on Wednesday 12th June.
Forty one of us boarded a coach at Carnmoney taking the short trip to Whitehead where we were shown around the museum and grounds in 3 groups by very knowledgable volunteer tour guide.
After the visit we were able to relax in the cafe over a cup of tea before return home to Carnmoney. It was a fascinating visit thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Thirty-nine children and their parents, as well as a large number of adult leaders from the church, enjoyed our traditional Good Friday workshop.
For the first hour the children undertook three craft activities: making Easter cards, an Easter wreath telling the story, and a model of Jesus’ empty tomb. Everyone then decamped to the church for singing and teaching on the Easter story, before the highlight of the morning, our Easter Egg Hunt around the church. They were well hidden this year but eventually all forty-eight eggs were found and the children worked out the hidden message: “Easter is Hope”.
We look forward to welcoming many of the children back to our Holiday Club which will be held from 12th to 16th August this year.
Two defibrillators are now available on our premises. The Church one will only be available whenever the Church is open and is therefore not for use by the general public. It is currently held in the Choir Vestry with plans to place it in the porch entrance.
A registered public defibrillator has been placed in a cabinet positioned on the outside wall at the entrance to the hall. The cabinet is locked but the code will be given by the NI Ambulance Service to anyone who requires it.
The NI Ambulance Service will also instruct on its use.
The second defibrillator and cabinet have been donated by Harry and Lorinda Hamilton and will be dedicated in remembrance of Harry at a later date.
A great evening was had by everyone who attended our Live Issue Concert on Saturday 9th March.
The group played a number of well known Country and Gospel songs as well as many of their own recordings and kept us well entertained well past 10pm.
